Self Examination
Every human is conscious, but not aware. It is through the inner self that pure awareness is found. Spend some time each day going inside to ask how you are feeling. Train yourself to recognize when you are upset and examine your feelings as soon as possible.
When people get upset, they usually focus on a person or situation that is bothering them. They blame the person. Sometimes the anger turns into yelling, or even physical altercations such as holes punched in the wall or objects thrown at human targets. It takes two people to fight. You have to be a willing participant. I want to show you a way to respond to upset that leads to more peace, resolution, and solutions. This requires more awareness, effort, time, and patience from you.
The goal from now on is to be aware of when you become upset. Notice what is going on inside of you and the temptation to react with the old behavior. If you are not aware, you won’t be able to make better choices about what actions to take. As you notice yourself becoming upset, keep focusing within. Accept your feelings and process your emotions. (I will show you how to do this in Chapter Five.)
To transform our beingness we need to know who we are. Most people complain about the things they don’t like about themselves, but do not spend any effort in doing anything about them. There are some things we can change about ourselves and things that we can’t change. We can’t make ourselves taller, change the color of our eyes, or have smaller feet. Look at what you have the power and ability to change and work on those things. The most important things to change are on the inside.
